Heavy and ripping grooving metal mixed up with a good dose of melodic death metal and some thrashing, are what this relative new Danish band delivers. The bottom is laid with some heavy riffing that has a good groove and catches the ear and the neck from the start, together with heavy basslines and pounding drums. On top of that we have a lot of weaving melodies and leads, which works out well and boosts the music and the drive and keeps it interesting together with some good breaks.
The vocal assault is top notch on this demo, an aggressive right in your face performance that consist of a rasping angry growl, which contains passion and personal involvement and drives the songs forward and makes it blast through brick walls, Rageborne is also varying the vocals some, and most of that turns out well.
A demo produced by Ziggy is usually sounding great, and "D.N.A. Overdose" is not altering that fact, a great raw and aggressive sound that's fits the music and the dark atmosphere on it well.
This demo is quite promising and offers 3 good and solid tracks of harsh metal with both melodies and aggression and good song writing, Rageborne will eventually stir a bit up here and there!

Rarely have I received a demo that has such an appealing cover, like the one I just got from Rageborne. The cover, that Mircea G. Eftemie (Mnemic) has made, is really made thorough and is shining with professionalism. The demo almost asks to be thrown on the stereo! Now, when that is done you are met by a strong and thick sound which likewise shines with professionalism. But that’s not too strange, when the man behind is Ziggy, who once again delivers a great sound from his ZigZound Studio.
The band behind this great piece is Rageborne that to me is an unknown band. They started in 2004 and have their first demo “D.N.A. Overdose” out now. Rageborne plays a rather aggressive style of melo-death, and the music is rocking quite well on all three tracks, which varies from loud and raging passages to more melodic harmonic riffs. To this, comes those melodic phrases here and there, which lead my thoughts in the direction of In Flames around 96-98, though not quite as complex and precise as the Swedish guys.
The music and the sound is characteristic for that of a modern production, however there is no clean vocals, no keyboards or other ”modern” initiatives, and it is absolutely praiseworthy to listen to a band, that is challenging themselves with melodic death metal without the incorporation of these elements. Besides that, the tracks are performed tight, whereof ”Inflammatory Fistfight Of The Hideous” is the track that is the most melodic of the three tracks, while the title track and especially ”So Help You God” is of a more aggressive expression, not at least as a result of the brutal drumming. The tracks unfortunately turn out to be a bit stereotypical. They don’t defer that much from each another and especially the acoustic phrases is not in my taste, and all it really does is to draw some of the energy from the music.
Unfortunately I'll have to say, that Rageborne doesn’t quite have the same ability to break-through, like the bigger bands as we know them from the genre, and they’ll have to work a bit more in the rehearsal room to reach that level. However this might be too much to ask from a young band who just released their first demo. But I am full of confidence because Rageborne clearly has ambitions and fortunately there's substance behind this constellation. Therefore it will be quite interesting to follow the progress of Rageborne when they get a little more experience, and hopefully add a little originality to their well-functioning tunes.

Rageborne is a rather young Danish band that plays a mix between Swedish melodic death metal and modern groove metal in the vein of Mnemic. The Demo CD is made with very high professionalism with a stunning cover and a striking production from Ziggy in his ZigZound Studio (Illdisposed, Mnemic, Panzerchrist og Nephew) that easily compares with the sound from the “professional” products. The band manage to mix there elements quiet good, especially by their “know-how” of using two guitars, which gives the songs their own special touch. Of the three tracks on the demo, “Inflammatory Fistfight Of The Hideous" is the track that defers the most, mostly because of the grade of using harmonic guitars, which gives the track a fresh sound in the mechanical style they play. So if you are to modern metal like Mnemic and Co, you should go to the guys’ website, where you in addition can read that the guys is sponsored by the sex-shop “Dark Rose” – which you can’t help but admire enviously.

Rageborne from the town “Herning” is here introducing us to their abilities with a mixture of melodic death metal and modern metal comparable to Mnemic. The relation to Mnemic doesn’t get less significant with Mircea G. Eftemie as the author of the cover-art for “D.N.A. Overdose”, which resulted in a nice cover that emphasizes the good production from Ziggy in ZigZound Studio.
“D.N.A. Overdose” is kicked off by the 5-minute title track that for the reason of the length, and a less interesting acoustic guitar piece, get’s quiet boring. Thus the start is consequently not completely on the top, but things are already improving on the second track “Inflammatory Fistfight Of The Hideous”, and the track includes nice twin-guitar-phrases, that creates the tunes and the changes that the first track lacks. Best of all is Rageborne however on the final track “So Help You God”, which unites the brutality together with a great drive that truly forms a synthesis. Here the band’s true potential is showing, and they prove that it doesn’t have to be boring and uninteresting to play the “mechanical” parts of metal.
All in all a good demo where both production and cover nicely compares with more established bands, and where the music generally is also of high quality.
